Mr. Awami has over 25 years of corporate experience spanning through Telecoms and Pension Fund Management with 18 years in Development Finance. He holds a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc) Degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria and Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Murdoch University, Singapore. He also has a Certificate in Managing Innovations from Harvard Business School, Boston USA, and the Certificate of Trade Finance in Africa (COTFIA) from the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

Mr. Awami currently heads the Specialized Business Department at NEXIM Bank. He is responsible for sourcing and managing the Bank’s strategic funding partnerships, arranging co-financing and syndications for loans and guarantees, providing business development and advisory services, as well as overseeing the SME Unit amongst other responsibilities. He is also the current Honorary Treasurer of the Global Network of Export-Import Banks and Development Finance Institutions (G-NEXID) based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mr Awami is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI), Global Association of Risk Practitioners (GARP), Chattered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria (CRMI), Chattered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and the National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA). He has attended numerous training courses both locally and internationally and is a sound credit analyst and administrator.
